Introduction to Cavity QED
نویسنده
چکیده
This text arose in the course of the “Hauptseminar Experimentelle Quantenoptik” in WS 2010 at the TU Kaiserslautern, organized by Prof. Ott and Prof. Widera. I want to give a short introduction also from the theoretical point of view to the fascinating field of cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED). Modern experiments (QND measurements on photons and photon blockade) are discussed and basic results derived.

Light-matter interaction in free space
We review recent experimental advances in the field of efficient coupling of single atoms and light in free space. Furthermore, a comparison of efficient free space coupling and strong coupling in cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) is given. Free space coupling does not allow for observing oscillatory exchange between the light field and the atom which is the characteristic feature of strong ...

Title of dissertation: CROSS-CORRELATIONS AND ENTANGLEMENT IN CAVITY QED Matthew L. Terraciano, Doctor of Philosophy, 2006 Dissertation directed by: Professor Luis A. Orozco Department of Physics Every quantum system subjected to measurements is an open quantum system. The cavity QED system is elegant in that it probes the interaction between two quantum systems, the atom and the field, while i...
متن کاملOrigin and implications of an A2-like contribution in the quantization of circuit-QED systems
By placing an atom into a cavity, the electromagnetic mode structure of the cavity is modified. In cavity QED, one manifestation of this phenomenon is the appearance of a gauge-dependent diamagnetic term, known as the A2 contribution. Although in atomic cavity QED, the resulting modification in the eigenmodes is negligible, in recent superconducting circuit realizations, such corrections can be...
متن کاملPhoton-mediated electron transport in hybrid circuit-QED
We investigate photon-mediated transport processes in a hybrid circuit-QED structure consisting of two double quantum dots coupled to a common microwave cavity. Under suitable resonance conditions, electron transport in one double quantum dot is facilitated by the transport in the other dot via photon-mediated processes through the cavity. We calculate the average current in the quantum dots, t...
متن کاملCavity QED with Single Atoms and Photons
Recent experimental advances in the field of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) have opened new possibilities for control of atom-photon interactions. A laser with “one and the same atom” demonstrates the theory of laser operation pressed to its conceptual limit [1]. The generation of single photons on demand and the realization of cavity QED with well defined atomic numbers N = 0,1,2, ... bo...
